Adobe no longer supports it. You could using it for Photoshop CC but for newer versions I recommend to use the <a href=\"http:\/\/install.anastasiy.com\" target=\"_blank\">Anastasiy\u2019s Extension Manager<\/a> a free and user-friendly installer \/ uninstaller for Adobe extensions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>As <em>-when launched-<\/em> AD Impastoshop allways replace your Patterns and Layer Styles I highly recommend to backup that files before launching the panel (<a href=\"#backup\">instructions below<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>Close ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CC 2014, CC 2015 or Higher<\/li>\n<li>Download the free <strong>Anastasiy\u2019s Extension Manager<\/strong> from <a href=\"http:\/\/install.anastasiy.com\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/install.anastasiy.com<\/a> and launch it.<\/li>\n<li>Extract the contents from the <strong>AD-Impastoshop.zip<\/strong> file.<\/li>\n<li>Launch the &#8216;Anastasiy\u2019s Extension Manager&#8217;, click &#8216;Install&#8217; and search for the <strong>ad.impastoshop_cc2016.zxp<\/strong> file.<br \/>It will place all the required files and after a couple of seconds a message will tell you the Extension was Installed Successfully!<br \/>Close the Installer.<\/li>\n<li>Restart Photoshop. You will find AD Impastoshop at:<br \/><strong><em>Photoshop > Window > Extensions > AD Impastoshop<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-xecPnaYEnc?rel=0&amp;showinfo=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<a name=\"backup\"><\/p>\n<h2>How to backup your patterns and layer styles.<\/h2>\n<p><\/a><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the Preset Manager:<br \/><strong><em>Photoshop > Edit > Presets > Preset Manager<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>From the \u2018Preset Type\u2019 dropdown menu select \u2018Patterns\u2019, once the patterns list is loaded click the first pattern, then hold down the keyboard Shift key and Click the last pattern to select All the patterns, then click \u2018Save Set\u2019, save it to your hard disk and you\u2019re done!<\/li>\n<li>Repeat the same process and select \u2018Styles\u2019 to save your \u2018Layer Styles\u2019.<\/li>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-74YSKWyrwc?rel=0&amp;showinfo=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<a name=\"CS6Installation\"><\/p>\n<h2>Installation in Photoshop CS6 using Adobe Extension Manager CS6<\/h2>\n<p><\/a><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>NOTE: If you want to use AD Impastoshop with Adobe Photoshop\u00ae CS6 you CAN NOT use the panel because it uses a different technology wich is only supported by newer versions of Photoshop<br \/>\nbut&#8230; YOU CAN STILL USE IMPASTOSHOP TOOLS WITH CS6! Follow these steps:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Close ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS6.<\/li>\n<li>If it is not already installed on your machine, please install the <strong>Adobe Extension Manager CS6<\/strong>:<br \/>https:\/\/www.adobe.com\/exchange\/em_download\/em6_download.html<\/li>\n<li>Launch &#8216;Adobe Extension Manager CS6&#8217;.<\/li>\n<li>Click &#8216;Install&#8217; and search for the <strong>&#8216;ad.impastoshop_CS6.zxp&#8217;<\/strong> file.<br \/>Don&#8217;t care about the message saying it&#8217;s an <em>&#8216;Unsigned&#8217;<\/em> Extension, install it anyway!<\/li>\n<li>Once the installation is complete restart Photoshop.<\/li>\n<li>Launch the Preset Manager:<br \/><strong>Photoshop > Edit > Presets > Preset Manager<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>From the <strong>\u2018Preset Type\u2019<\/strong> Dropdown menu select <strong>\u2018Patterns\u2019<\/strong> then click the small gear icon from the top right corner to open the options list, select the <strong>&#8216;AD Impastoshop&#8217;<\/strong> item wich will load the Impastoshop Texture Patterns.<\/li>\n<li>Repeat the same procedure for the other presets:<br \/>\nClick <strong>\u2018Preset Type\u2019<\/strong> and select <strong>\u2018Styles\u2019<\/strong> then click the gear icon and select <strong>&#8216;AD Impastoshop&#8217;<\/strong><br \/>\nClick <strong>\u2018Preset Type\u2019<\/strong> and select <strong>\u2018Tools\u2019<\/strong> then click the gear icon and select <strong>&#8216;AD Impastoshop&#8217;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Finally load the required Actions (Backup your actions before anything!):<br \/><strong>Click Photoshop > Window > Actions<\/strong><br \/>Click the small icon from the top right corner to Open the Menu and from there Select <strong>\u2018AD Impastoshop\u2019<\/strong> (Not mandatory but I suggest to replace your current Actions with the Impastoshop Actions)<br \/>If you want load also the <strong>&#8216;AD_Impastoshop_Textures&#8217;<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<a name=\"thepanel\"><\/p>\n<h2>Parts of the panel<\/h2>\n<p><\/a><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Add Base Texture<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/alexdukal.com\/store\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/07\/AD-Impastoshop-Parts_01.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-38600\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alexdukal.com\/store\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/07\/AD-Impastoshop-Parts_01.jpg\" alt=\"AD-Impastoshop-Parts_01\" width=\"178\" height=\"212\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-38600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The first dropdown menu lets you add a texture as a base for your artwork.<br \/>\nIt doesn\u2019t matter wich is the size of your document, the texture will cover the 100% of it.<\/p>\n<p><br style=\"clear:both\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Create Impasto Layer<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/alexdukal.com\/store\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/07\/AD-Impastoshop-Parts_02.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-38601\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alexdukal.com\/store\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/07\/AD-Impastoshop-Parts_02.jpg\" alt=\"AD-Impastoshop-Parts_02\" width=\"178\" height=\"267\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-38601\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The second dropdown menu contains the main Impasto layers grouped into this categories: Wet, Canvas, Dry Gesso, Glue Gesso and Abrasive.<br \/>\nEach time you select an item, a new layer will be created with the corresponding effect.<\/p>\n<p><br style=\"clear:both\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Add Impasto FX<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/alexdukal.com\/store\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/07\/AD-Impastoshop-Parts_03.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-38602\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alexdukal.com\/store\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/07\/AD-Impastoshop-Parts_03.jpg\" alt=\"AD-Impastoshop-Parts_03\" width=\"178\" height=\"147\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-38602\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This third and last dropdown menu has some special effects (Carve &#038; Varnish) that could be combined with the main Impasto layers.<\/p>\n<p><br style=\"clear:both\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Rasterize All FX:<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/alexdukal.com\/store\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/07\/ad-impastoshop_buttons_01.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-38612\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alexdukal.com\/store\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/07\/ad-impastoshop_buttons_01.jpg\" alt=\"ad-impastoshop_buttons_01\" width=\"84\" height=\"58\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-38612\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The function of this button is to render \/ rasterize the effects in all the layers having an effect. As adding to many layers with FX could slow down the Photoshop performance, this function may help to keep the actual document as lightweight as possible.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> <em>In order to view it as expected Carve and Varnish layers need to change their \u2018Layer Mode\u2019 to \u2018Linear Light\u2019 after rasterization.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><br style=\"clear:both\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>FX + Paint:<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/alexdukal.com\/store\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/07\/ad-impastoshop_buttons_02.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-38613\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alexdukal.com\/store\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/07\/ad-impastoshop_buttons_02.jpg\" alt=\"ad-impastoshop_buttons_02\" width=\"84\" height=\"58\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-38613\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It doesn&#8217;t matter wich is the FX of the current layer, this function will make visible the effect and the colour of your brush strokes.<br \/>\n<strong>Eg.:<\/strong> <em>Usually, if you paint over a &#8220;Carve Layer FX&#8221; what you see is just the transparent effect, the opacity of the contents (color fill) is turned to 0%, so this function will put the contents opacity back to 100% to make it visible.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><br style=\"clear:both\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Only FX:<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/alexdukal.com\/store\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/07\/ad-impastoshop_buttons_03.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-38614\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alexdukal.com\/store\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/07\/ad-impastoshop_buttons_03.jpg\" alt=\"ad-impastoshop_buttons_03\" width=\"84\" height=\"58\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-38614\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This function in combination with each Impasto Layer will add a bunch of other effects to the default ones.<br \/>\nThe Impasto Layers have the fill opacity at 100% by default, that means when you paint you see the colour of your strokes plus the layer effect, if the fill opacity is down to 0% the strokes colour turns invisible but the layer effect is still visible. That&#8217;s what this button makes: hide your strokes but keeps the layer fx intact.<\/p>\n<p><br style=\"clear:both\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Duplicate FX:<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/alexdukal.com\/store\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/07\/ad-impastoshop_buttons_04.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-38615\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alexdukal.com\/store\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/07\/ad-impastoshop_buttons_04.jpg\" alt=\"ad-impastoshop_buttons_04\" width=\"84\" height=\"58\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-38615\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Each time you click this button your current \/ active layer is duplicated without it&#8217;s contents.<br \/>\nVery simple but really necessary to produce a realistic Impasto or thick paint effect building up your artwork with several layers.<\/p>\n<p><br style=\"clear:both\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>The Brushes<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/alexdukal.com\/store\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/07\/ad-impastoshop_brushes-section_15.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-38625\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alexdukal.com\/store\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/07\/ad-impastoshop_brushes-section_15.jpg\" alt=\"ad-impastoshop_brushes-section_15\" width=\"194\" height=\"360\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-38625\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alexdukal.com\/store\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/07\/ad-impastoshop_brushes-section_15.jpg 194w, https:\/\/alexdukal.com\/store\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/07\/ad-impastoshop_brushes-section_15-162x300.jpg 162w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 194px) 100vw, 194px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The panel contains 76 brushes inside seven categories:<br \/><strong>Oil (12 brushes), Palette Knife (8 brushes), Acrylic (16 brushes), Wet (12 brushes), Splatter (12 brushes), Blenders (8 brushes) and Erasers (8 brushes).<\/strong><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nAD Impastoshop doesn\u2019t replace, overwrite or change your brushes or tool presets, so you could use the panel and also load and use your daily brushes or\/and tool presets without worries.<\/p>\n<p><br style=\"clear:both\" \/><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>TIP: How to use most of the Tool Preset Brushes as Erasers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/s0lIpmvYsVw?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Merge Selected<\/strong><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/alexdukal.com\/store\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/07\/ad-impastoshop_buttons_05.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-38629\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alexdukal.com\/store\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/07\/ad-impastoshop_buttons_05.jpg\" alt=\"ad-impastoshop_buttons_05\" width=\"134\" height=\"52\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-38629\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is another function to help you taking down the weight of your document.<br \/>Just select a group of layers and click the button: the layers are going to be merged with all the effects rasterized.<\/p>\n<p><br style=\"clear:both\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Texturize<\/strong><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/alexdukal.com\/store\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/07\/ad-impastoshop_buttons_06.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-38630\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alexdukal.com\/store\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/07\/ad-impastoshop_buttons_06.jpg\" alt=\"ad-impastoshop_buttons_06\" width=\"134\" height=\"52\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-38630\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Use this function once you\u2019ve finished your artwork. It will duplicate and save a greyscale version of your artwork in a Desktop folder (AD-Tools) and then it will use that image to apply texture in a new layer with a mask.<br \/>You could paint over that mask to hide the textured parts that you don&#8217;t want to show.<\/p>\n<p><br style=\"clear:both\" \/><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Additional Options:<\/strong><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/alexdukal.com\/store\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/07\/ad-impastoshop_contextual.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-38631\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alexdukal.com\/store\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/07\/ad-impastoshop_contextual.jpg\" alt=\"ad-impastoshop_contextual\" width=\"367\" height=\"181\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-38631\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alexdukal.com\/store\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/07\/ad-impastoshop_contextual.jpg 367w, https:\/\/alexdukal.com\/store\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/07\/ad-impastoshop_contextual-300x148.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 367px) 100vw, 367px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Clicking the small icon in the right top corner of the panel you could access to some Quick help as the AD Impastoshop version, some basic instructions and a link to this On-line Help.<\/p>\n<p><br style=\"clear:both\" \/><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>How to use it<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>First thing is to take in mind how the real Impasto works:<br \/>\n<em>&#8220;Impasto is a painting technique, where paint is laid on an area of the surface very thickly, usually thick enough that the brush or painting-knife strokes are visible. Paint can also be mixed right on the canvas. When dry, impasto provides texture, and the paint appears to be coming out of the canvas.&#8221;<\/em><br \/>\nso do not cover all your canvas with colour but paint with visible brush strokes using as many layers as you need.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Once you&#8217;ve created a New 300 Dpi Photoshop Document and launched Impastoshop (Photoshop > Window > Extensions >) add a Base Texture (image A) from the first menu (it&#8217;s not mandatory but I highly recommend to start with some neutral background, neither white nor black).<\/p>\n<p>Then use the second dropdown menu to create a new &#8216;Impasto Layer&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Open any Brush group, click a brush thumbnail to select it and start painting (image B)<\/p>\n<p>Use the &#8216;Duplicate FX&#8217; button to add more layers and paint over. So&#8230; Do not replace or delete that set of Layer Styles!<\/li>\n<li>As -when launched- AD Impastoshop will replace your Patterns and Layer Styles I highly recommend to backup that files before launching the panel.<\/li>\n<li>The Impasto effect works much better using a neutral color as background, neither white nor black.<\/li>\n<li>For better visualization and organization each Impasto layer has a colour assigned depending on it&#8217;s category (Eg: Dry Gesso layers are Yellow, Wet layers are red,  etc.).<\/li>\n<li><strong>When clicking some brush icons the brush doesn&#8217;t change.<\/strong><br \/>This happens when you have activated the option \u201cCurrent tool only\u201d in the bottom of the Tool Presets window (Photoshop > Window > Tool Presets).
